Dan Dailey by William Warmus
Although he has been represented in nearly fifty museum collections around the world in the past four decades, there has never been a monograph of glass artist Dan Dailey's work. Here, for the first time, is a comprehensive look at Dailey's glass work, including lamps, vases, wall reliefs and murals, tables, busts, chandeliers plus various sketches and drawings. In addition, the book includes a foreword by celebrated graphic designer Milton Glaser, an essay by former Corning Museum of Glass curator Wiliam Warmus and an interview with the artist by the Museum's current curator, Tina Oldknow.
Milton Glaser is one of the most celebrated graphic designers in the United States. He has had solo exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art and the Center Georges Pompidou. In 2004 he was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum. As a Fulbright scholar, Glaser studied with the painter Giorgio Morandi in Bologna and is an articulate spokesman for the ethical practice of design. He opened his own design studio, Milton Glaser, Inc., in 1974 and continues to produce work in many fields of design. William Warmus is a former curator of The Corning Museum of Glass, a past editor of Glass magazine and the author of books on artists Dale Chihuly, Louis C. Tiffany, Frantisek Vizner, Emile Galle and Rene Lalique. He lives near Ithaca, New York. Tina Oldknow has been the Curator of Modern Glass for The Corning Museum of Glass since 2000. Formerly the editor of Glass Art Society Journal, she is also a trustee of the American Craft council and member of the International Council of Pilchuck Glass School, ArtTable, the International Association for the History of Glass, the Glass Art Society and the The International Council of Museums (ICOM). She is the author of books on the Pilchuck Glass School, Dale Chihuly, Richard Marquis, Dante Marioni and William Morris.
