Developing Holistic Education by Philip Seed
Education, appealing to every aspect of each child's potential is the basis of an holistic and therapeutic community approach to schooling. Written in conjunction with the children and the staff of Raddery School, near Inverness, Scotland, Seed provides an account of good practice in the education and care of emotionally damaged children. Divided into two parts, the first considers the Raddery experience and the second part looks at the implications for educational and child-care policy and practice. Close attention is also paid to the views of parents, interviewed at length over a two year period. Seed considers the wider implications of good practice in child care, special education and post-school care, examining issues and features which apply both to ordinary schools and to those for children with special needs. Illustrations are provided on many aspects of this therapeutic and educational community. It is aimed at PGCE in special needs and general education, lecturers and students, social workers and LEA advisers and inspectors with responsibility for special needs.
