Like an ox, she worked hard to be useful and worthy to all around her. What would have been this young Korean girl's dream then? We meet the people who influenced the author's earlier life. But how did she learn to speak up to a man in the street to retrieve her lost scarf at a time when a young girl had no voice of her own in the family and in the Korean society? How did she support herself to stay in school and finish her education? The story begins at the start of the Korean War which resulted in her moving to Taegu and highlights the hardships she had to endure to finish her school. The narrative is completed when she eventually graduate K-12 education and college before coming to America. How was she able to accomplish her lifetime goal of being educated?
