The Fire Engine Book by Tibor Gergely
Charles Manby Smith (1804-1880) was a Victorian essayist. He came up from the working-class and had a differing opinion of demoralizing effects of the penny gaffs. His works include: Curiosities of London Life (1853), Working Man's Way in the World (1854) and The Little World of London; or, Pictures in Little of London Life (1857).
TIBOR GERGELY, who was born in Hungary and emigrated to the U.S. in 1939, was one of the most prolific of the early Little Golden Books illustrators. He brought to life some of the most classic and beloved LGB characters, including Tootle and Scuffy the Tugboat.
