Frightened Fred by P Coplans
Fred is a scaredy cat. He is frightened of mice and spiders and caterpillars and monsters. His cousin Jack isn't frightened of anything. He comes to stay and involves Fred in all sorts of frightening situations. The worst moment is when the two of them meet some big, fierce-looking cats in the park. Jacks runs off but Fred is too frightened to move. All they do is ask the way to the river, but Jack doesn't know this and is suitably impressed with Fred's bravery. Peta Coplans was born in South Africa. She studied Fine Art at the University of Cape Town, and then Illustration at the Central School of Art in London. From 1978 to 1996 she and her husband ran Chic Pix, a regular contributor to the Guardian. She is married with 2 children and they now live back in Cape Town.
