Gadfly for God by Bernard Palmer

The "Church Times" is the oldest surviving Anglican weekly newspaper. Founded in 1863 by a London printer, George Josiah Palmer, to help forward the ideals of the Oxford Movement, its history over the past century and a quarter mirrors the history of the Church of England itself. The author, Dr Bernard Palmer, is the great-grandson of the founder of the paper and is responsible for editing the paper from 1968 to 1989. This book looks at the history of the paper from both a personal and a historical perspective, looking at the men and women who have worked on the paper, including former Prime Minister Edward Heath. A former editor of the "Church Times" once remarked that the job of any paper was to "be a gladfly and stir things up". "Gladfly for God" uses extensive quotes from the paper's own columns to give the reader an indication of its editorial stlye.
