Zusammenfassung

A collection of poems that fuses lyrical autobiography with a record of the public life of the nation. Paradoxically, as Ireland suffered numerous atrocities, it was also becoming freer, more cosmopolitan and less hypocritical, as exemplified in the presidency of Mary Robinson.

Greetings to Our Friends in Brazil by Paul Durcan

Paul Durcan has been at the heart of Irish cultural life for 30 years and his poetry has acquired a huge international following. Greetings to Our Friends in Brazil is his most challenging and engaging collection yet, one that addresses itself through Ireland and the Irish diaspora to the whole world beyond.
Paul Durcan's first book of poems, Endsville (with Brian Lynch) was published in 1967 and has been followed by fifteen others, including Daddy, Daddy (Winner of the Whitbread Award for Poetry, 1990) and A Snail in My Prime: New and Selected Poems (1993). His most recent is the long poem, Christmas Day (1996). He is a member of Aosdana and lives in Dublin.
