Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born in 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He began a medical career before embarking on literary ventures with A Study in Scarlet, his first novel featuring the iconic Sherlock Holmes. His works have gone on to achieve widespread success the world over and Sherlock Holmes continues to captivate audiences in the present day as a popular television series. Conan Doyle died in 1930 in the hall of Windlesham Manor, his house in Crowborough, East Sussex. He was aged 71.
