Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard by Kiran Desai
The delightful story of Sampath Chawla, bored post-office clerk and dreamer, who takes to the branches of a secluded guava tree in search of the contemplative life - only to find something rather different.'Hullabaloo is delicious: with kindness and humour Desai describes a magical world full of eccentric characters that, at the end of the book, one is sad to leave.' Daily Telegraph
Kiran Desai was born in India in 1971 and educated in India, England and the United States, where she received her M.F.A. from Columbia University. She is the author of the critically acclaimed Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard, The Inheritance of Loss, and her work has appeared in the New Yorker and Salman Rushdie's anthology Mirrorwork: Fifty Years of Indian Writing.
