Human Rights, Robot Wrongs by Susie Alegre

'Eye-opening' New Statesman 'Utterly brilliant' Helena Kennedy 'Thought-provoking, challenging and very humane' Michael Wooldridge No longer an uncertain technology of the distant future, artificial intelligence is starting to shape every aspect of our daily lives, from how we think to who we love. In this urgent polemic, leading barrister Susie Alegre explores the ways in which artificial intelligence threatens our fundamental human rights - including the rights to life, liberty and fair trial; the right to private and family life; and the right to free expression - and how we protect those rights. Touching on the many profound ethical dilemmas posed by emerging technologies, and full of fascinating case studies, Human Rights, Robot Wrongs is a rallying cry for humanity in the age of AI.
Eye-opening.. acknowledging the fallibility of machines and the need to hold those responsible for harm to account are key themes of this interesting book * Marina Wheeler, New Statesman *
Alegre's sharp legal brain conjures up the wicked problems of AI and provides a legal blueprint for humanity's survival. Utterly brilliant. * Helena Kennedy *
A brilliant exposé of the way our failure as a society to enforce laws and social conventions has left us vulnerable to AI and other harmful tech products. * Roger McNamee *
This is a thought-provoking, challenging, and very humane book, which in an ideal world would be required reading in every Silicon Valley boardroom * Michael Wooldridge *
Fascinating... We have all sleepwalked into this gloomy fairytale, and it's time to wake up. * Guardian on Freedom to Think *
Freedom to Think could not be more timely... As the world experiences yet another brutal reminder of how far authoritarians will go to control and suppress their populations, [Alegre's] recommendations feel freshly relevant * Financial Times on Freedom to Think *
Timely [and] thought-provoking... One of Alegre's most compelling arguments for freedom of thought is that it allows us to try out ideas, to explore and test combinations of thoughts and concepts * Times Literary Supplement on Freedom to Think *
