I've never encountered people like Al and Maddie, but by the end I cared deeply for them. Martin McCaw, author of The Low Road Miller's novel lays bare the struggle of two women hanging by their fingertips to the outer edge of society as they desperately try to start a family of their own. Their crushing conflicts are handled in a sensitive, thought provoking manner, with well-written prose and dynamic and compelling characterizations.
