Geisha, goddesses and more, Japanese women have been portrayed as objects of beauty and desire in japanese art for hundreds of years. From 18th century wood-block prints to mid 20th century magazine covers the image of beauty hovers just beyond realism, sexually alluring, yet friendly and demure.
Alex Gross is a fine artist and instructor at Art Center College of Design, and lives in South Pasadena, California. A recipient of the Japan Foundation Artist's Fellowship in 2001, Alex has also been a collector of Japanese fine and commercial art for several years. His artwork can be seen at www .alexgross.com.
