Juana's life in Bogot , Colombia, is just about perfect. Every now and then a big problema comes along--like having to learn English or Juana's mami getting remarried--but things eventually settle down, and life goes back to feeling pretty perfect again. But then Mami springs two new sorpresas on Juana. One: Juana will be spending her school break going to skating camp instead of relaxing (even though she doesn't know how to skate ). Two: Mami is going to have a baby How can one Juana-size person possibly handle SO. MANY. CHANGES? Juana Medina was born and raised in the Colombian capital of Bogotá. She got in trouble at school because she drew cartoon renditions of her professors. All of the scribbling (and trouble) paid off in the end. Smick! is illustrated by Juana Medina. She studied and taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, worked as an illustrator and animator for clients in the United States, South America, and Europe, and presently teaches at George Washington University's Corcoran School of the Arts and Design. Juana Medina is a Washington, D.C. resident.
