Lake Powell by Gary Ladd
Lake Powell's sapphire waters sparkle in undulating canyons of burnt orange rock, its myriad patterns of stone and water made vibrant by pure, lucid desert light. Arizona photographer Gary Ladd celebrates Glen Canyon National Recreation Area's compelling sandstone beauty--both the lake and its 96 quiet, trickling side canyons.
Gary Ladd is a freelance large-format photographer and writer specializing on the wilderness interior of Grand Canyon, the standstone landscapes surrounding Lake Powell, and the slick-rock terrain of Vermillion Cliffs National Monument. Anne Markward, a writer with a background in sustainable tourism, is passionate about the cultural history and subtle beauty of the American Southwest. Based in Durango, Colorado, she has worked on cultural and environmental tourism projects in Central and South America, Africa, New Zealand, and all over the western US.
