Jane Cox's authoratative text recreates life in the East End over the last five ceturies with anecdotes, folk tales, excerpts from contemporary diaries, court cases, newspapers and letters as well as over 100 photographs, paintings and maps.
Jane Cox is former Principal Assistant Keeper of Public Records at the National Archives. Since 1989 she has been an author and genealogical researcher. Jane is the author of numerous books, guidebooks, and articles for a range of publishers. For five years she was chairman of the Stepney Historical Trust. Her family has lived in the East End since the seventeenth century.
