Lothian surrounds the capital city of Edinburgh, which has done much to influence the character of its buildings. Among these are some important medieval relics, including the internationally famous Rosslyn Chapel, the royal Renaissance palace at Linlithgow, and the ruins of great castles and tower houses. Jane Geddes is emerita professor of art history at the University of Aberdeen. Ian Gow is a former chief curator emeritus of the National Trust for Scotland. Aonghus Mackechnie is a former government adviser with Historic Environment Scotland. Chris Tabraham is an archaeologist, historian, and former inspector of ancient monuments for Historic Scotland.
