John Churchill was born in 1650, the son of a defeated Cavalier captain, in a household which had been ravaged and rendered almost destitute by the English Civil War. John Hussey was born in 1933, and was awarded an OBE in 1971 for his services to British interests abroad. He has written for more than a dozen military journals, and has appeared in BBC documentaries as a consultant on the First World War. He is currently the British representative on the historical committee advising the Belgian authorities on their project to restore the battlefield of Waterloo. This is his first full-length book.
