MCW: Exclusion Zone by Judy Stone
Wannabe singer, Venus Baxter has arrived back in Montserrat, her childhood home, but there is no one to welcome her. She finds herself in an island devastated by years of volcanic activity, with nowhere for her to stay. The long-lost father she had intended to visit is a fugitive up in the hills. The Montserrat police prohibit her from joining him. It is Cooper, who has enough problems of his own, who comes to the rescue, leading her on a quest through the forbidden zones that ends at a ruined mansion, a ruined man and a riddle which revives the demons of their own pasts.
Graeme Knott was born in 1948 in Harrow, Middlesex, UK, and was educated at Bedford School and the University of Sussex, where he studied engineering. After two years as a studio engineer with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation he returned to Sussex for his MSc and PhD, and stayed a further five years as a Research Fellow. He spent 1982 travelling and writing, then launched a new career in computer software. He began sailing in 1985, taking part in many races, and bought his first boat in 1988. In 1993 he moved his boat to the Caribbean and since 1998 has been based permanently in Antigua, in sight of the Montserrat disaster. Over the years Knott has authored scientific papers, reference manuals, guides and articles, and was a regional editor of the Waterline. His unpublished writings include novels and film scripts. Exclusion Zone is his first published novel.
