Miami may be the sunniest place in America but this is Didion's darkest book, in which she explores American efforts to overthrow the Castro regime, Miami's civic corruption and racist treatment of its large black community.
Joan Didion was born in California. She has been a novelist, essayist and screenwriter for and her books include Slouching Towards Bethlehem, The White Album, Salvador, and the recent memoir Where I Was From. She lives in New York.
