The Missing Duchess by Alanna Knight

Based on the early life of the author Benjamin McColloch Hord, this book is a mix of fact and fiction. Hord writes about his boyhood life at Rose Hill Plantation, his college days at Chapel Hill, and his experience as a soldier and officer in the Civil War. Not only is Hord's work a fascinating story of triumph and tragedy, it is a vibrant testament to the beliefs and practices of many early 20th century southerners.
Knight, Alanna: - Alanna Knight was born and educated in Tyneside, and now lives in Edinburgh. Since the publication of her first book in 1969, Alanna Knight has written more than forty novels (including eleven in the successful Inspector Faro series), four works of non-fiction, numerous short stories and two plays. She is a founding member of the Scottish Association of Writers and Convener of the Scottish Chapter of the Crime Writers' Association and gives talks through the Writers' Register of the Scottish Book Trust.
