In Chapter 5, Jae struggles with the idea of leaving the mansion. Michael wants her to leave because he knows that she is a temptation for him. But, she refuses to leave until the issues and questions she has surrounding Michael, Ken and Eva are resolved. We see a glimpse of Michael's life as a human and his earlier interactions with Adrian. Jae essentially views Michael's former life through a hallucination/vision, and is surprised by Michael's life as a human. She is shaken by the visions, and only increases her curiosity. We also learn that Eva and Michael had an agreement concerning Ken in which Eva wanted Ken to become a vampire by Michael's doing. Michael does make Ken into a vampire, which will be final in two weeks. He blames Eva for making him do this. Ken falls into a deep sleep, in which he apparently undergoes a semi-transformation into a vampire. When he wakes up, he decides he wants to leave with Jae. Meanwhile, Michael cannot withstand the temptation of Jae, and they finally have sex; and she gives herself to him both physically and emotionally. The result is that Jae falls in love with Michael. Ken is also in love with Jae, and painfully finds out the truth about Michael and Jae. Michael agrees to give Jae two final weeks in which to finish his portrait, and at the end of the two weeks, she must leave the house. Jae agrees to leave the house with Ken at the end of the two weeks, but she admits to Ken her new feelings for Michael.
