Multilingual Education by Jasone Cenoz
This volume explores holistic trends in multilingualism, analysing the processes of both 'becoming multilingual' and 'being multilingual'. Multilingualism has increased in recent years due to globalisation, transnational mobility and the spread of Information and Communications Technology (ICT). This volume explores some of the trends in the study of multilingual education by putting together research studies that analyse the processes of both 'becoming multilingual' and 'being multilingual' in educational contexts.
Jasone Cenoz is Associate Professor of English Linguistics at the University of the Basque Country (Spain) where she teaches linguistics and psycholinguistics. Her publications are in the fields of second language acquisition, bilingualism, multilingualism and inter-language pragmatics. She is currently conducting a research project on the acquisition of English as a third language by Basque-Spanish bilingual children. Fred Genesee is a Professor at McGill University and has conducted extensive research on alternative forms of bilingual and immersion education. He is the author of Learning Through Two Languages: Studies of Immersion and Bilingual Education; Educating Second Language Children and Classroom-based Evaluation in Second Language Education (with J. Upshur). He is currently co-authoring a teachers' guide on enriched language and cultural education with Else Hamayan and Nancy Cloud.
