The Other Canal by Barbara Butcher
Laura Jones, a divorced pensioner, has treated herself to a holiday in Thailand. On the night train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok she is shocked to find that a baby has been abandoned in the toilet. She takes it back to her cabin, but realises that she has left her bag in the toilet. She rushes back only to find that it has been stolen, along with her credit cards, money, passport, mobile phone and details of her hotel. There has been no sound and the corridor is deserted. As Nigel, Laura's son, flies out to rescue his mother, he is unaware that back in London her holiday has set off a series of events which lead to murder. Nigel is totally out of his depth as 'dark forces' try to prevent the publication of disclosures which would finally throw light on conspiracy theories and threaten British security.
'Barbara Butcher's brisk-paced thriller.. is a tale of intrigue and conspiracy laced with sub-plots aplenty... A taut and tantalising read.' -- Bob Stuart 'Strongly drawn characters and a fast pace makes this mystery thriller the kind of tale where the reader is keen to know what happens next, but does not really want it to end.' -- Elizabeth Dean 'An enthralling page turner.' -- Margaret Boughton
