Post Office by Tim Reaume

In the mid-eighties employees in a Southern California post office are forced to step up their coordinated defenses against the rising pressures at work. A tumultuous atmosphere has sprung up to predominate in the Bay City Post Office, and the angst is fueled by a management team that is on the warpath and apparently out of control. So far the unified bonds of the employees have protected them from the mysterious and unwarranted attacks. But the pressures are becoming too much. Postal clerk Brian McGraw has had enough and through these tempestuous times we meet his unusual assortment of coworkers and friends, listening in and following them on the various paths they take as they muddle through their separate and intertwined battles. Brian finds comfort in his friends while he faces down confrontational bosses and upheavals in his own life. His wife, Karen, is an up-and-coming news anchor, and sometimes the news she is reporting hits way too close to home. Finding himself fighting to survive raging storms at sea and in relationships as well as waves of high-profile violence that seems to spring out of nowhere, and even small things like getting to work safely on his motorcycle, Brian adopts his riding philosophy, I am invisible, to help him get through it all.
