In the cargo hold of a private railcar lies a casket. Seventy-four-year-old Hagen Beckenbauer is taking someone home to be buried on the family's farm. Hagen meets Emily, hired through the rail company to be his service attendant for the three day trip from New Mexico to New Jersey. As they travel together, Hagen tells the incredible story of him, his family, and the special passenger in the cargo hold. A deeply moving first novel from new author Seph Gannon, about how the Beckenbauer family survive the most unthinkable and brutal experiences of World Wars I and II. This is a book which will change you. It will teach you that with hope, kindness, utter resilience and love, everything is possible.
`Ravelled spans a century and crosses two oceansThe quality of Seph's writing for which I am most grateful is the casual manner in which hope and fortitude, compassion and commitment, are treated as matters of course, though no less miraculous for that; the admonition that we each have the capacity to demonstrate the same strength and act of kindness not only for our loved ones, but for those strangers whose paths we cross seemingly by chance. Ravelled is powerful, prosaic and plainly-spoken', J.K. Bywaters, Virginia, USA;`Seph Gannon has captured my heart. His passion in these pages has introduced me to people who have become part of my life. This book is a journey and I'm glad I took the ride.' Rocco Morabito, Florida, USA; `Gannon's first novel Ravelled reads with such fluidity and ease that you feel he must have already written at least five previous novels to be this good. His simple and gentle approach to writing engages the reader quickly and lures you into a false sense of emotional contentment, then, suddenly before you even know it, a swift hard hitting blow takes you down and leaves you in no uncertain terms feeling both the painful lows and euphoric highs of the characters. Emotional, impactful and unforgettable. I don't cry at books. I do now.' L. Chapman, Hampshire, UK; `This has instantly become one of my very favorite books. It's a story of how the love and enduring bonds of a family, and their friends, helped them survive the devastating events of the first half of the 20th century, including world wars and the Great Depression. They never lost hope; they never lost family. I can't wait to share this book with my friends. Thank you, Seph!' Lois Colbridge, Virginia, USA
Seph Gannon is an American author born in Pennsylvania. At just three days old, he was adopted. Baby boy Gannon grew up in Southern New Jersey surrounded by cornfields, fruit orchards and pumpkin patches, at a time when life was less hectic; when you knew all your neighbours and they knew you. He has since lived in New Mexico, St.Thomas and Florida. During his travels he has worked in restaurants, been a Disney Puppeteer and is a licensed massage therapist. He currently lives in Virginia. Among his passions are photography, music, cooking, acting, and singing (in the car). Ravelled is Seph's first novel and is inspired by his life experiences and compassion for all living things.
