Refrigerator Cake by Dickson Telfer
Following his debut collection, The Red Man Turns to Green, Dickson Telfer returns with this fresh offering of dark and comical short prose about everyday life. Join a 92-year-old man in his quest for peace. Place yourself in front of a class from hell. Be surprised by your home town. Discover the unsettling world behind the curtain of television. Look dead fish in the eye. Traipse your way through litter and text messages. Bark with joy. And don't let anything stop you enjoying refrigerator cake.
Of The Red Man turns to Green: I maintain that short story collections are best when they are from a collection of authors but here the author has achieved a wide enough group of subjects, being told by a very wide group of characters (including a dog) and raised a great breadth of topics in a hauntingly enough manner to satisfy even meAn excellent collection that will leave readers thinking for long after they have put the book down. http://ourbookreviewsonline.blogspot.co.uk/
Dickson Telfer lives in Falkirk with his girlfriend and two dogs. He works in Learning Development in Higher Education and spends most of his Saturdays following East Stirlingshire F.C. When not writing, working or watching silky football, he likes to attend, organise or perform at live literature events, walk his dogs in picturesque seaside villages and find excuses to avoid painting outdoor wood.
