The Rough Guide to Iceland (Edition 2) by David Leffman

The Rough Guide to Iceland is the ultimate guidebook to this striking country. The guide has a 24-page introductory section featuring full-colour photos of the country's highlights from the renowned Reykjavik nightlife to the dramatic Western Fjords and table-top mountains in the country's remote northwest. There is comprehensive coverage of all the attractions such as the rich birdlife of Lake Myvatn, the original geysers at Geysir and the stylish bars of downtown Reykjavik, the world's most northerly capital city. For every town and village there are insider reviews of the best places to stay, eat and drink, both on and off the beaten track, plus how to get the most out of the country on any budget. Practical advice is provided for a host of activities, from ski-doing on the Vatnajökull glacier to whale-watching and viewing the Northern Lights. Finally, in the Contexts section, there is expert coverage of Iceland's rich Viking history and its extraordinary geology and wildlife.
David Leffman first visited Iceland in 1981 and has been back and forth ever since, in between travelling around the world writing and updating other Rough Guide titles, including Australia, China and Indonesia. James Proctor studied Icelandic at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik, though his pitiful use of declensions still bemuses most Icelanders. When not in Iceland, James lives with his partner in the south of France.
