Scars Of A Chef by Rick Tramonto

Rick Tramonto started as a high school dropout working at Wendy's; he became one of the hottest celebrity chefs in the world. Yet his rise to culinary success was marked with tragedy, loss, and abandonment. As a teenager, Rick worked to support the family when his father (who had Mob ties) went to prison. As a young adult, he struggled with a learning disability and drug addiction. Yet as a chef, he rose rapidly to culinary stardom, earning rave reviews and eventually opening the famous four-star establishment Tru. From the outside, it looked like he had everything he ever wanted; his lifelong hunger for meaning should have been more than met. But on the inside, his life and his marriage were falling apart. And then, one night, a voice on the radio changed everything. Containing recipes and photos, Scars of a Chef is the mesmerizing rags-to-riches memoir of one chef's journey through the highest heights and the lowest lows of the culinary world . . . and his search for something that would finally heal his wounds and sustain him through even the darkest times.

In 1994, Rick Tramonto, the executive chef/partner of Tru in Chicago, was awarded one of Food & Wine's Top Ten Best Chefs in the Country, and in 1995, Robert Mondavi named him one of America's Rising Star Chefs. He's also been nominated for the James Beard Award for Outstanding Chef in the Midwest four times, winning it in 2002. Tru, which first opened its doors in May 1999, was nominated for a James Beard Award for Outstanding New Restaurant in 2000 and named one of Cond12 Nast Traveler's Top 50 Greatest Restaurants in the World. Tramonto is the coauthor of American Brasserie and Butter Sugar Flour Eggs alongside his partner Gale Gand. Mary Goodbody is a well-known food writer and editor who has contributed to over 45 publications.

Williams-Sonoma Kitchen Companion, The Garden Entertaining Cookbook, and Return to the Table are among her most recent projects. She was the first editor in chief of Cooks magazine and is a senior contributing editor for Choc-olatier magazine and Pastry Art & Design magazine. Tim Turner is a well-known food and tabletop photographer in the United States. He has won the James Beard Award for Outstanding Food Photography twice, the most recent occasion in 2002.

Charlie Trotter's Recipes, Charlie Trotter's Meat and Game, The Inn at Little Washington, Norman's New World Cuisine (by Norman Van Aken), Jacques Pepin's Kitchen, and American Brasserie are just a few of his earlier undertakings.
