Scripture 101 by William Parker
Scripture 101 introduces key elements to understanding the Bible. The first section explores some of the traditional preconceptions that we have about the Bible itself. The next two sections build and expand on this foundation as the author, William J. Parker, focuses on the Old and New Testaments respectively. When did Moses write the history of God's people, and why are some stories repeated, giving different names for God along the way? Father Parker offers clues to the answers of these and other questions. In Scripture 101, you will enter the culture that surrounded the birth of Jesus and learn to explore the world from which Jesus drew his stories of building the kingdom of God. The chapters can be read in any order or in the sequence in which they appear. Every chapter includes resources for reflection and study questions for group discussion or individual study.
William Parker was born in Newport, Wales, and spent his early childhood in the Middle East. He attended schools in Gloucestershire and Wales before studying drama at the Guildford School of Acting. William spent 20 years acting, including a season at The Royal National Theatre, two national tours of Peter Pan, a production of Hair at Her Majesty's Theatre, Haymarket in the West End, in addition to three seasons in repertory theatre and many supporting roles in TV and film. He is now happily settled into a part time job-off stage-with Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group, which gives him time to pursue his interest in writing. He has a nine-year-old son and lives in London.
