Joan Bauer is the author of a number of children's books. Hope Was Here earned her a Newbery Honor Medal, as well as the L.A. Times Book Prize. Rules of the Way won the Times Book Prize. Both Hope was Here and Near to Famous received the Christopher Award, as well as the Schneider Family Book Award.
