The author starts by establishing his basis of selection for the title "The Great Anglers". He looks at the whole sport, from the specimen hunters and the fish naturalists to the angling writers and artists, developers of tackle and methods, the conservationists, and a whole host of men and women who have been involved in angling over the centuries. Evocative names from earlier years - such as Martin, Coxon and Scrope - are discussed, along with legendary waters such as the Tweed, Test, Avon and Redmire.
