Training the Young Horse by Pippa Funnell

This book shows how international eventer, Pippa Funnell - well known for her ability to get the best out of the youngsters she rides - builds a successful bond with the young horse. Using Pippa's personal experience and specially commissioned photographs of the on-going training of her own horses, every step of the process is covered, from assessing potential and backing through to the first competition and beyond. Every rider, whatever their discipline, wants a rewarding partnership with their horse, and this book will show how to lay the essential early groundwork.
Pippa Funnell's first big title was winning the 1987 European Young Rider. In 2000 she won silver with the Olympic team and in became European champion for the second time. She was the first ever rider to win the Rolex Grand Slam in 2003 and is part of Great Britain's eventing Olympic team for Athens. She has also earned a reputation for producing good horses out of unproven youngsters. Pippa lives in Surrey, England. Kate Green is a freelance author and journalist and eventing correspondent for Horse & Hound magazine. Her previous books, all published with David & Charles, are Schooling for Success (with William Fox-Pitt) and Training the Cross-country Horse (with Andrew Nicholson).
