What Is Anarchism? by Vernon Richards

An illustrated introduction to the development of anarchist thought, featuring selections from Errico Malatesta, Peter Kropotkin, Max Stirner, Emma Goldman, Charlotte Wilson, Michael Bakunin, Rudolf Rocker, Alexander Berkman, Colin Ward, Albert Meltzer and many others. This edition has been enlarged and updated for a modern audience. This useful compendium was compiled and edited by the late Vernon Richards of Freedom Press, and includes helpful and humorous illustrations by Wildcat cartoonist Donald Rooum.

Donald Rooum was born in 1928 and became an anarchist in 1944. From 1947, he has published articles to the anarchist publication Freedom. His cartoons have been published in the British press since 1950, after he studied graphic design in Bradford, England. Since 1962, his editorial cartoons have published in Peace News. Since 1980, his strip Wildcat has run in Freedom, and since 1987, Sprite has appeared in The Skeptic. In 1963, he was accused with possessing an offensive weapon, but the prosecution officer made a mistake in planting the evidence, and in attempting to save his own skin, Donald unwittingly launched the famous Challenor case, a police officer-led plot to defame nonviolent activists.
