Her study focuses on discourse analysis and whiteness studies. She is concerned about the issues of a predominantly white teaching force and a more diverse student body. Journal of Understanding and Dismantling Privilege, International Journal of Critical Pedagogy, and Equality & Excellence in Education have all published her work. She has received the Student's Choice Award for Educator of the Year on two occasions. She has worked with a variety of groups, including the City of Seattle, to give diversity and anti-racism training.
