Bringing together a variety of texts about modern China, Chow examines the relationship of woman with issues of non-Western culture, including ethnic spectatorship, popular literature, the construction of literary history and the revolutionary production and reception of national literature.Rey Chow grew up in Hong Kong and received her Ph.D. in Modern Thought and Literature from Stanford University. She is an assistant professor of comparative literature at the University of Minnesota, where she is affiliated with the Departments of East Asian Studies and Women’s Studies. She has contributed articles to Cultural Critique, New German Critique, Radical America, Modern Chinese Literature, Dialectical Anthropology, Discourse, Camera Obscura, and Differences.
