The Yugoslav Wars (1) by K Mikulan

Following the death of the Yugoslavian strongman President Tito in 1980, the several semi-autonomous republics and provinces that he had welded into a nation in 1945 moved inexorably towards separation. After a deceptively clean break for independence by Slovenia in 1991, the world watched a series of wars rip through this modern European state. In this first of two volumes, experts on the Balkan region give an unprecedentedly clear, concise explanation of the Slovene, Croatian and Krajina-Serb armies of these campaigns, illustrated with rare photos and colour uniform plates.

Dr Nigel Thomas is an accomplished linguist and military historian, formerly a Principal Lecturer at Northumbria University, now a freelance military author, translator and military consultant. He was awarded a PhD on the Eastern enlargement of NATO. His interests are 20th century military and civil uniformed organizations, particularly in Germany, Central and Eastern Europe, and he has written many books for Osprey.

Krunoslav Mikulan MA is a Lecturer at the Teacher Training College in Cakovec, Croatia. His particular interests are the history, organization, uniforms and insignia of ex-Yugoslav military and internal security forces. He is the author and co-author of books on the Croatian police and on the Croatian forces in World War II; and is the co-author with Nigel Thomas of MAA 282 Axis Forces in Yugoslavia 1941–45.
