Ted and Alice hear the tale of Black Bess - a beautiful black mare who was forced to jump over a crevasse. Her owners cut off a piece of her mane which was then lost. Folklore has it that until the mane is found there will be bad luck in the area of Wales, where they are staying with their cousin.
