Books by Charles D. Forbes

Professor Charles Forbes is the Professor of Medicine of the University of Dundee and also holds an honorary Clinical Consultant post in Tayside University Hospitals Trust. In addition, he has held a Visiting Professorship of Bioengineering of the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.

Most of his life his clinical and research interests have been in the mechanisms of blood coagulation; platelet function; fibrinolysis; blood rheology and flow and the application of this knowledge to clinical problems of arterial and venous thromboembolism.

He is the author of over 500 research papers on the above subjects and has edited over 20 books mostly dealing with these topics. He has also written a best-selling undergraduate text on General Medicine with Dr William Jackson. His recent research has mainly concerned thedifferent types of interventions in thrombosis and also its prevention. He has been elected a founder Fellow of the Academy of Medical Science and is a Fellow of the Royal Society (Edinburgh) and also a Fellow of the Royal Societyof Arts.

He remains a committed physician in management of General Medicine patients and also in Vascular Medicine. His main managerial role (outside the University) is in the committee structure of the Royal Colleges of Physicians. He is also current Chairman of Chest, Heart and Stroke (Scotland).


William (Bill) Jackson is a medical writer, editor and publisher. He qualified in Medicine at the University of Cambridge and Guy's Hospital Medical School in 1971. Bill worked as a full-time hospitaldoctor and Lecturer in Medicine for 5 years, during which he developed a special interest in renal medicine and hypertension. His interest in medical education led him to become the editor, successively, of Update and Hospital Update, Medicine and Medicine International, British Medical Television and manyassociated journals, books and television programmes aimed at doctors, medical students and the professions allied to medicine. Bill also expanded his part-time clinical interests to include allergy and respiratory medicine, and was appointed Honorary Consultant in Medicine at Guy's Hospital in 1985. Over the past 15 years, Bill has written widely on many areas of medicine. Bill lives and works near Oxford, England.
