Books by Gordon Mackie

Gordon Mackie caught his first trout on a fly fifty years ago from the river Erme in Devonshire. Having escaped from London during the war the family settled in the village of Plymstock where Gordon was immediately captivated by the wonders of nature, particularly butterflies and moths. He became a 'proper' fly-fisherman in 1963 when, having moved to Bristol, he discovered the little Box Brook near Bath. The author joined the Wilton Fly Fishing Club in 1968, acting as president for ten years up to 1983, and now serves on the committee of the Salisbury and District AC. Gordon's first article was published in 1968, since which time a regular stream of letters, reports and features have appeared under his own name and others including Warburton, Old Sarum and Geoffrey Oaklands. He is the author of How to Start Trout Fishing and contributed to The Shell Book of Angling and The Haig Guide to Trout Fishing in Britain. Describing himself as a bit of a recluse, he now lives alone in his 'shack' surrounded by the woods, downlands and rivers of southern Wiltshire.
