Itamar Rabinovich is a professor emeritus of Middle Eastern history at Tel Aviv University, Israel, where he spent eight years as president. He is also the distinguished global professor at New York University and is currently the Bronfman Distinguished Nonresident Fellow with the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution. He was Israel's chief negotiator with Syria from 1992 to 1995 and he served as Israeli ambassador to the United States 1993-96. He is also the author of several books, including Waging Peace (1999; revised in 2004).
