Some classic clinical pearls and very much evidenced based medicine. This book not only gives you the knowledge, but it seems to have a different approach than other books I have read. Reasoning and formulating treatment plans in healthcare is definitely not missing in this book. Excellent work, highly recommended.
Great book for learning how to take patient's history, perform clinical examinations and make reasoned judgements. It explains why to do them, and what differential diagnosis we should consider. Overall, a really good book, highly recommended.
This book is a great tool for anybody in the field of patient assessment who wishes to make effective diagnoses and develop their logical clinical reasoning. As a paramedic, I have found the book to be a great resource in my pre-hospital assessment as it incorporates realistic clinical cases, something a lot of other medical textbooks lack.
Put together not just by experts in their field, but by incredible educators, and it shows. The perfect compendium for a variety of professional backgrounds and career stages.
Brilliant lay out and easy to digest. Thoroughly recommend for junior docs, Med students, Nurses, HCAs, therapists and anyone else wanting to learn more about clinical medicine
As a medical student, I am delighted to find a resource that offers detailed explanations on how decisions are made. Traditionally, this valuable know-how is acquired opportunistically, skills students are expected to pick-up by attending the clinical setting. This book builds on ward based learning, enabling the reader to reflect on the pillars of good practise: communication, mental organisation, diagnostic reasoning and the logistics of care-giving. CSDAR is succinct yet very rich in information, simply demystifying parts of the art of medicine. Each organ system is honoured, with detailed and clear explanations of physiology and pathophysiology, supplemented with effective pictures and tables. The authors offer pragmatic solutions to situations I hadn't considered, for example what to do when a patient is experiencing hearing aid problems (involving a neat trick with a stethoscope!). Preluding each chapter, a series of playful and thought provoking questions galvanise the reader into not only reading, but also reflecting.
This excellent book is easy to read, process, understand and action. It's great for learning, for revision and general quick referencing. It enables you to ask the appropriate, vital questions in treating the patient, not simply the condition, taking you logically through the thought processes, based on essential guided history taking.
I especially like the patient centred approach, the starter questions at the beginning of each chapter with answers at the end of each one and the bright yellow boxes containing essential information and tips.
This masterpiece has truly been written with a passion for clinical teaching and a desire to achieve best health outcomes for patients, whilst maintaining their dignity. It is a gem for your bookcase! I have bought two, gifted one and recommended to many. -- 5-star reviews on Amazon
