Summary

The author believes the biggest block against facing up to 'real' Christianity is suffering. This book offers a look at the whole issue, split into the 'why' of questioning the God of love and tackling a number of the questions thrown at Christians about suffering and the 'how' of knowing Him and 'how' to prepare for and handle suffering.

The One Big Question - The God of Love in a World of Suffering Summary

The One Big Question - The God of Love in a World of Suffering: Revised edition including Group Study by Bishop Michael Baughen

Why does a God of love allow bad things to happen to good people?

Michael Baughen's years of biblical study and life experience come together to address this 'One Big Question' and sensitively explore not only the 'why' but also the 'how' to deal with suffering. He avoids patronising solutions and trite answers and points us to the cross of Christ and the love of God, using uplifting real-life examples from the lives of Christian who have seen God working through suffering in their own lives or the lives of loved one.

This book, which includes group and personal study questions, will help those who are struggling to come to terms with suffering, or who just want some answers to that 'One Big Question'.

The One Big Question - The God of Love in a World of Suffering Reviews

I found this compelling reading. Michael Baughen seeks to answer (and does so brilliantly) the question most commonly asked of Christians: how can there be a God of love when there is so much suffering? There are no patronising or condescending platitudes in his answers, but a carefully researched, sensitive response to this most difficult subject. It will equip Christians in understanding, stimulate deeper faith and witness, as well as give comfort and hope to the hopeless and perplexed and encouragement to those who are suffering. -- Fiona Castle
