This guide is part of a series which includes Walk the Lakes, Walk Loch Lomond and the Trossachs, Walk Snowdonia and North Wales and the first guide in the series of this area, Walk the Peak District. There are 35 walks in this guide to the best walking routes of the Peak District, varying from short strolls to more strenuous excursions. Walks are graded to take into account the distance and types of terrain covered, making it easy to judge which walks are suitable for families and which for more experienced walkers. All the walks in the guide start at, and return to, an area suitable for car parking, usually by a circular route. Round-trip distances are given. Walks are illustrated by detailed, specially designed maps, showing the route clearly and there are accompanying step-by-step instructions. Each walk is contained within one page or 2 facing pages, making it unneccessary to turn pages while walking. Along the route, features of note and interesting viewpoints are drawn to the reader's attention and explained. The first, introductory part of the guide details the features, special characteristics and wildlife of the area as well as giving general advice on countryside walking.
