Introduction Chapter 1, Goddess Worship: From the Ancients to the Alchemists explores early goddess worship, high priestesses as sexual initiators, rites in ancient Greece and Hermetic beliefs. Chapter 2, The Sacred Feminine in Christian traditions illuminates the sacred feminine in Christian traditions including Gnosticism, including the figures of Sophia, Eve, Lilith and the serpent. Chapter 3, Western Attitudes to Sexuality, takes on recent aspects of sexuality in the West, and in particular the medical model of sexuality that is so influential today. In Chapter 4, Eastern Approaches to Sex and the Spirit, We look at the spiritual path, subtle energy bodies (such as the chakra system), yoga, meditation, and the Hindu and Buddhist traditions. Chapter 5, Tantra Deities and Practices, explores Tantra and Neo Tantra (Tantra in the west) and the ways in which this incorporates unique traditions for using sexual energy to achieve union with the divine, and remind us of the sacredness of sexuality. Chapter 6, What Makes Good Sex? details the ways sacred sex traditions can be incorporated into our own relationships, looking at techniques of breathing, meditation and visualization as well as specific practices drawn from neo-Tantra which expand our awareness of the sacred in sex to open the doorway to ecstasy.
