Gathers together over 100 extracts by, and about, Dubliners and Dublin. It is divided into five main sections: fiction, social and cultural life, biography, history and travel. Within these categories, the selection of writing runs from the 16th century to the present provides a graphic insight into the changing pattern of Dublin life over the centuries. Great names such as Beckett, Behan, Joyce and Yeats are represented as well as some surprises such as Winston Churchill who spent part of his youth in Dublin and Chiang Yee who sees the city through the eyes of a late 19th- early 20th-century Chinese. The anthology has extracts from newspapers, memoirs of nuns, politicians, painters, policemen and prostitutes.
