Contributions include new stories from Alice Thomas Ellis, Emily Prager, Elizabeth Jolley, Candia McWilliam, Claire Harman, Helen Simpson and Moy McCrory in the 1990s and are interspersed with stories from Edith Wharton, Ella D'Arcy, George Egerton, Ada Leverson, Netta Syrett, Charlotte Mew, Evelyn Sharp and Mrs Murray Hickson in the 1890s. The book is compiled by the author of "Misogynies", "A Masculine Ending" and "Don't Leave Me This Way".
