Dilly the Donkey Summary

Dilly the Donkey by Elli Woollard

Meet Dilly the wonky donkey in this joyous, fun-filled, sun-drenched book that's packed with positive values. Written by Elli Woollard and illustrated by Steven Lenton, this delightful story puts age and wisdom before beauty, encourages self belief and shows that no matter how old and wonky you may be, you can still be exceptional!

Dilly the Donkey may be little and wonky - and not as young as she used to be - but each day she lovingly carts the children to school. That is until her owner replaces her with a flashy young horse! Is poor Dilly too old and bent to be of any use? Of course not! She's kind, brave and smart too, so when the new horse catches the eye of two sneaky thieves, it's up to Dilly to halt their dastardly plan and save the day. Could this be the start of a whole new career?

A third fabulous story from creators of the The Great Gran Plan and Dinosaurs Don't Draw.

About Elli Woollard

Elli Woollard is an exciting talent on the picture books scene, who started writing stories after an embarrassing incident in which her youngest son broke Michael Rosen's glasses. In addition to picture books, she also writes children's poems. Her snappy rhymes, catchy rhythms and witty stories are sure to make her a huge success. She is the author of The Giant of Jum and The Dragon and the Nibblesome Knight, illustrated by award-winning Benji Davies and The Great Gran Plan, her first book with illustrator Steven Lenton. She has also beautifully adapted Rudyard Kipling's Just So Stories, illustrated by Marta Altes. Elli lives in London with her four children, her husband, two guinea pigs and a cat.

Steven Lenton is a multi-award-winning illustrator, originally from Cheshire, now working from his studios in Brighton and London with his dog, Big Eared Bob. He has illustrated many children's books including Head Kid and The Taylor Turbochaser by David Baddiel, The Hundred And One Dalmatians adapted by Peter Bently, the Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam series by Tracey Corderoy and the Sainsbury's Prize-winning The Nothing To See Here Hotel series written by Steven Butler. He has illustrated two World Book Day titles and regularly appears at literary festivals and live events across the UK. Steven has his own Draw-along YouTube channel, showing how to draw a range of his characters. He has also written his own picture book Princess Daisy and the Dragon and the Nincompoop Knights' and his new young fiction series Genie and Teeny. For more info visit stevenlenton.com
