Ashes 2010-11 Summary

Ashes 2010-11: England's Record-Breaking Series Victory by Gideon Haigh

Once again Aurum will have the first book out on this winter' s eagerly-awaited rematch between England and Australia.

For the last three Ashes series Aurum has published an instant book by the hugely-acclaimed cricket writer Gideon Haigh, who always covers the Tests for a national newspaper. This winter, as England seek to retain in Australia the Ashes they won in dramatic fashion in 2009, Haigh will be producing another such book, and once again Aurum will rush it out within a month of the end of the final Test.

This time (compared with the 5-0 whitewash in 2007) the omens are favourable: at Trent Bridge England have just trounced Pakistan, who in turn beat Australia. While England have seen a new crop of young batsmen and bowlers like Morgan and Finn come through to replace former stars like Flintoff and Vaughan, the retirement of Warne, McGrath, Hayden and Langer has seen Australia struggle for inspiration.

Ashes 2010-11 Reviews

'Cricket-lovers who know Gideon Haigh's work will need no convincing: those who don't will find this an ideal place to start. What makes Haigh so good? One reason is that he not only tells us what happened, he explains what it meant, where it fits into cricket history, of which he has a consummate grasp. Above all, he is a supreme stylist, with the ability to make one laugh out loud.' -- Simon Redfern Independent on Sunday 'Covers each Test, day by day, offering insightful thoughts in Haigh's elegant prose. Excellent reading.' Sport 'A wonderful way of reliving a magical moment in English cricket' Good Book Guide 'The most comprehensive and thoughtful review of the Ashes possible' Wisden Cricketer '(Haigh) is the most elegant of writers whose prose is a delight to read whatever the content. 10/10 - this is the best tour book we've read.' www.cricketweb.net
