From one of the most acclaimed and dynamic picture book makers of his time comes a book that tests the very meaning of a picture book story, plays havoc with formal type and design and speaks directly to its readers! A new picture book from Herve Tullet! How exciting. Open it up - see what's inside! Hello! There's lots of characters. And they're looking right at YOU. They seem to be a bit surprised... Hmmm, maybe they're not quite ready? (The drawing's a bit messy, too. It looks like this illustrator has some more work to do.) Let's read on and see. Uh-oh - it seems the characters don't actually know what to DO! Hang on ... there's not even a STORY because - guess what?! - this book isn't FINISHED! But while you're here (and because you probably DO want a story, right?) they're going to try and find one for you. And they might just need the help of a certain author...
A wonderfully clever and imaginative book that sets the imagination soaring. I would love to use it with a class of children to inspire their story writing * Parents in Touch * Great fun - playful and inventive * Books for Keeps * Zany picture book that invites reader participation in challenging our understanding of such basic words as "characters", "story" and "book" itself. -- Robert Dunbar * Irish Times * This book is brilliant, one of the most enjoyable I've stumbled on in a long time...it draws readers in and is what it means to imagine and play. -- Kate Kellaway * The New Review (The Observer) * A masterpiece of a book and a great gift. * Mumsnet Picture Books 2013 * Herve Tullet has concocted the most delicious work-in-progress during which he is caught out in his study - bone idle, surprised and very French - a passport snap tells all. `Um, how did you get in here?" he asks from beneath his Anglepoise. A story about story-telling to divert readers of all ages -- Kate Kellaway * The Guardian * Amazingly multi-layered and skilful * The School Librarian *
