This work is a comprehensive illustrated account of the archaeology of the great monastic houses of medieval Britain. Although there are numerous books on abbeys and priories in Britain, they are almost all written from the architectural and/or historical perspective. This seeks to redress the balance. It covers the application of new archaeological techniques since 1970, describing both the methods and the resulting information about monastic life.
